While our Sydney and Adelaide POPs are completely independent of each other, there’s specific paths which our data flows between the POPs takes, and it turns out that it’s not terribly redundant.
From around 3:15am on the morning of Thursday April 10th a link between Sydney & Melbourne of Aussie Broadband failed and it took out the path between our Sydney and Adelaide POPs.
I logged a ticket with Aussie Broadband within 30 minutes and they kept me up to date, with the inter-POP connectivity came back for us between our Sydney and Adelaide POPs by 4:45am that Thursday morning.
During this event our Sydney POP was unaffected and fully online, but our Adelaide POP experienced reduce Internet connectivity while Aussie Broadband manually used their redundant and alternative connectivity between Sydney and Adelaide for our networks.
This post is done some days after the event after the details as to what happened has been provided to us.
FYI,
Richard.
